In Focus

Alpha
The next Alpha course at St Paul's starts with an introductory supper on Wednesday 17th September, followed by the course itself starting on Wednesday 1st October. It’s a brilliant overview of the Christian faith - see the Alpha web page for more details. Are you coming, or is there someone you could invite? Invitation cards for the supper are available at the back of church - you can reserve your place at the supper or on the course through the church office.

St Paul's night
Please note that there after the St Paul's night on Weds. 3rd September, these monthly prayer meetings move to the first Thursday of the month in October-December to make way for Alpha.

Three ways to serve at St Paul's

1. The Rainbows parent and toddler group needs someone to make tea and coffee and give a warm welcome every Wednesday (10.00 - 11.30am) from September. Please see Heather Coupland

2. We need more people to join the team serving coffee after the 10.30am service. Speak to Kevin Croft.

3. If you love cooking, would you join the small team who each provide a meal when mums have a new baby? Speak to Heather Coupland or Brenda Robertson for more details.

Managing Money God's Way

This is a seminar organised for ALL at St Paul’s to help us think through our own experiences of money and what the Bible has to say about managing it, on Wednesday September 10th @ 7.45pm

Money is rarely a subject that we can discuss easily. Most people are anxious around money, if not for ourselves then for our children, grandchildren or others that we know and love. For those who are in debt or fearful of debt that anxiety is usually severe. This seminar will help all of us to think about the subject of money in safety and with humour and will be presented by David Conacher of ‘Stewardship’. To attend, please sign up today. If you would like any further information please see Ben Nicholson, Glyn MacAulay or Simon Easley.

Sunday evening specials
Our occasional Sunday evening special services continued in June with an evening looking at Richard Dawkins' bestselling attack on religion in general and the Christian faith in particular.  Vicar Simon Coupland shared what he sees as some of the weaknesses in Dawkins' arguments on June 29th, and the sermon can be heard or downloaded from our sermons page. There will be an opportunity to discuss the issues raised by the talk at ‘Hot Potatoes’ on Tuesday 22nd July.

Then at on July 13th we welcomed Anthony Delaney, who has a special gift and heart for evangelism, on the theme of "Sharing your faith without losing your friends". He was entertaining and challenging!

On August 31st we have one of our occasional film specials - "Click", a funny, thought-provoking box office hit on the dangers of fast-forwarding your life. Recommended for all busy people!

Church weekend at Ashburnham

The church weekend away at Ashburnham was a great success, and we thank God for a brilliant time together. Photos of the weekend can be seen on the 'Past events' page, and to listen to Andy Hickford's talks go the sermons page - soon if not now!

New curate

We welcome Sylvester Liyanage and his wife Lovisa as Sylvester is ordained in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday June 29th.  Sylvester comes originally from Sri Lanka and Lovisa from Sweden, and Sylvester previously worked with Oxygen and at St Peter's Norbiton.  They have moved into Kelvedon Close, and their first full weekend with us is at our church weekend at Ashburnham.

Shrinking the church's carbon footprint
The industrialised first world is the major cause of global warming with the impact being the greatest on the most vulnerable communities in the third world. A group has formed at St Paul’s to take forward practical measures to reduce our carbon footprint at church and to promote reductions at home. Details of the group plans are shown on the “Eco Notice Board” in the welcome area. If anyone would like more information or would like to join the group please contact Peter Clarke or Peter Watson.

Recycle printer cartridges

Bring your used inket cartridges to church so that they can be recycled - making a small profit for the church and a big gain for the environment!  This does NOT include Epson cartridges, unfortunately.
